It is the governmental center of county of Osceola County. Hawkeye Point, the highest point in the State of Iowa, is also nearby.
Sibley had its start in the year 1872 by the building of the Sioux City & St.
Harding, governor of Iowa from 1917 to 1921, was born in Sibley in 1877.
According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 1.68 square miles (4.35 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,798 citizens , 1,153 homeholds, and 724 families residing in the city.
