Pleasant Hill incorporated as a town/city on May 12, 1956. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 9.29 square miles (24.06 km2), of which, 9.15 square miles (23.70 km2) is territory and 0.14 square miles (0.36 km2) is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 8,785 citizens , 3,395 homeholds, and 2,426 families residing in the city.

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 91.0% White, 2.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.5% Asian, 0.9% from other competitions, and 2.6% from two or more competitions.

On November 20, 1983, an explosion of an explosives storage bunker just south of Pleasant Hill occurred.
